Track: Speaker AMAs (Ask Me Anything)

QCon has 15 technical and 3 sponsored tracks across the three conference days.  Each of the technical tracks represents a vertical conference focused on a technology or trend in software. Often times, important concentrations develop at the conference outside of those tracks. The AMAs are a way to address these microtracks or just to get your questions answered with popular speakers. The idea with the AMAs is to create a space for general Q&A around these topics and speakers.  

AMAs are an informal gathering for Q&A. Bring your questions for in depth conversations with QCon speakers.

Track Host: Wes Reisz

QConSF Chair, Host of the InfoQ Podcast, & VP of Technology @SectionIO

Wesley Reisz is the VP of Technology at Section (an Edge Compute Platform focused on rethinking how the edge is used in DevOps-focused application development). Wes also chairs the LFEdge Landscape Working Group and the New York and San Francisco editions of the software conference QCon.

Before joining Section, Wes served as the product owner for all of the English speaking QCon conferences worldwide, was a principal architect with HP Enterprise Systems, and, for over 13 years, taught as an adjunct professor for the University of Louisville (Go Cards!).

At HPE, Wes’ primary roles supported the US Army’s Human Resources (HRC), Recruiting, and Cadet Support Commands based at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Wes was the Principal Architect for US Army Cadet Command and was known for championing, building, and deploying enterprise portal and identity solutions used by Army Recruiting.

In addition to Wes’ current roles, he hosts a weekly podcast called The InfoQ Podcast. The InfoQ Podcast serves senior early adopter/early majority developers and architects with interviews from some of software’s most important thought leaders. The podcast has been downloaded over 1.5 million times and has a weekly listener base of around 14K.

Conversational Agility: Presence, When You Can’t Plan for It

Eye contact, vocal variety, physical presence, asking effective questions- these are all incredibly useful communication skills when you have time to plan and practice, but what about when you need them at a moment’s notice? Using GK's signature kinesthetic training tools, in 50 minutes we will help participants master the following: 

  • How to utilize transparency and honesty to build credibility, including six go-to rhetorical phrases that can reset conversations, adapt in the moment, and recover.
  • Six breathing time techniques to gain time, increase composure, and frame your response
  • Listening techniques to ensure you’re accurately comprehending what’s being shared and make your audience feel heard.
