After years of defying predictions of its demise, Moore's Law is now indisputably dying. Many pundits have opined on what the end of Moore's Law means for computing writ large, conjuring futuristic zoos of quantum computers, purpose-built accelerators and ubiquitous FPGAs. But what does the end of Moore's Law mean for practitioners in the trenches of enterprise computing? In this talk, we will explore potential ramifications, including not only the exotic world of emerging substrates, but much more mundane notions of scale, durability, economics and (yes!) accounting.
